Charm City Yarn Crawl 2018!

yarn crawl

We Say “Yarn”, You Say “Crawl”! Yarn! Crawl! Yarn Crawl!

We are thrilled to be participating in this year’s Charm City Yarn Crawl!  This is a wonderful week of exploring your local yarn suppliers, getting great discounts, and entering to win prizes!  You must purchase a Yarn Crawl tote ($15) and have it with you to receive the discounts, but believe us, it’s worth it.  The totes are available at our own Little Boutique online (for in-store pickup), or at any of the participating shops.  Fourteen different yarn stores in the area are participating, and every one of them will have great specials you won’t want to miss!

In addition to offering the yarn crawl discounts all week, we will be offering demonstration events during the weekends.

On April 8, 14, and 15, we will have demonstrations every two hours, cycling through Ravishing Roving (art batts & rolags), Spiffy Spinning (art yarn techniques), and Fabulous Felt (needle felting).  Heather can’t wait to show folks the different techniques she’s learned at various workshops during the past year!

Please note that we will not be able to offer demonstrations on Saturday, April 7.

Heather is giving a talk that Saturday with the Creative Knitters Guild in Kensington, so she won’t be on the farm to work her magic with fiber.

Please visit for all the details about the totes, the prize entry passports, and, of course, the participating shops.  We can’t wait to see you!

Winter is Here – Keep Warm and Stylish with Alpaca Fleece Clothing and Accessories

Here at Breezy Hill Farms we a first-rate herd of alpacas. In our time raising these wonderful animals we have seen some of the great ways alpaca fleece can be utilized.  Today we are going to talk about how you can use alpaca fleece to stay warm and comfy this winter.

Alpaca Products to Help You Stay Warm

Alpaca fleece is an amazing winter fabric. It holds in heat, keeps out cold, and doesn’t absorb moisture. All this while still being incredibly lightweight and soft. Here are some of the stylish alpaca products that will help you best the cold this winter:

  • Sweaters – This classic is taken to whole new level of comfort when made with alpaca fleece.
  • Zipper sweaters – Similar to the classic sweater but easier to get on and off.
  • Long johns – Alpaca long johns are more comfortable and keep you much warmer than traditional long johns.
  • Stylish ponchos – Ponchos can be more than just a great fashion accessory. In fact, alpaca ponchos do a great job protecting you from cold winter gusts.

  • Fur headbands – This is a trendy way to keep your ears nice and warm.
  • Shawl – This classy accessory is a great way to stay warm and look great.
  • Scarves – Scarves are a necessary part of all winter wardrobes. The luxurious look and feel of alpaca fleece makes scarves even more marvelous.
  • Turtlenecks – A great way to keep your neck and torso nice and toasty this winter.
  • Fur hat – This is a very classy accessory, and it keeps your ears cozy and warm.
  • Gloves, mittens, and glittens (a glove/mitten combo) – These are another absolute necessity this winter.
  • Beanies – a great way for men to keep their ears warm this winter.

The Benefits of Alpaca Fleece

Now you know what alpaca products to buy for this winter season. Let’s take a look at some of the things you’ll love about your new alpaca wardrobe additions:

  • It is luxuriously soft – It is as soft as cashmere, but it is much more durable and long-lasting.
  • It is very strong and light – Alpaca fleece is uniquely lightweight and has unmatched strength.
  • It is wrinkle resistant – Not only does alpaca fleece not form matted balls as it is worn and washed, but it also naturally resists wrinkles.
  • It doesn’t absorb moisture – This is part of the reason why alpaca fleece makes such great winter wear.
  • It doesn’t absorb odors – Because it naturally wicks away body oils and odors, the alpaca fleece you wear requires significantly less laundering.
  • It is naturally flame resistant – Most synthetic fibers are highly flammable. Therefore, they must be covered with potentially irritating flame retardants. Alpaca is naturally resistant to flames.
  • It is hypoallergenic – Alpaca is lanolin free and doesn’t hold dust. This makes it an amazing find for those with allergies.
